From the moment that I was first introduced to J.M.W Turner’s paintings, style, and legacy during a lecture in semester one he became one of my all-time favourite masters of old. Romanticism was a new style and period to me – one that I can admire greatly, and that would never cease to amaze me due to the intense skill, sublime subtleness, and an unmatchable serene view of this world.
Romanticism - especially that by Turner, captured a chaotic, raw, natural aggression in such a picturesque, aesthetically beautiful way.

My intentions in undertaking a research assignment on Turner, and creating a video presentation as a result of was to gain a further understanding, and greater appreciation of the artist and the style that had left me in awe time and time again. I felt that by creating my video I would be able to express visually the brilliance that I see in Turners works, and perhaps introduce others to romanticism at its finest, like I was.

I felt that as an opening sequence to the video, the montage images of some of Turner’s works introduced a range of various works to those who were unfamiliar with them, and also showed an important progression of his style as an artist. Visually it was effective enough, and it was good that it had been synchronised to the music. The only issue was it kind of felt like it could have been a little excessive. But this could have been me over thinking it.

I felt like the video was informative, and included a lot of biographical qualities, but that said I felt like the limitations of time was a difficult time frame to present enough adequate and supported information. In addition to this, I was working with a limited amount of video support. Being an artist from a past time period there were obviously not any interviews, but rather a few documentaries on his works. I did the best I could with what I had. I also tried to include some humour in the assignment, which I felt would lighten the mood, and atmosphere. Fun videos are simply more interesting than serious ones in my opinion.
